"Auvers Church "

Vincent Van Gogh painted the Church at Auvers in 1890. Today this oil on canvas is exposed in the Orsay Museum in Paris.

The Church of Auvers is a painting that belongs to the last period of Van Gogh, before he commits suicide. At the beginning of 1890, Vincent went to Auvers, a place he thought was good for him because it was one hour from Paris and close to his doctor.

In February 1890 the artist participates in an exposition in Brussels, where he sold one painting "The Red Vineyard". The 17 th of May, the artist left the hospital and spent a few days visiting Paris and then on to Auvers. The day after he got there, he started painting landscapes, portraits and dead nature. This period of his art is full of dynamism and an incredible creativity and a majestic use of colour. He painted around 80 oil painting and 60 drawings.

At the afternoon of 27 th of July 1890, Vincent Van Gogh shot himself with a gun, after falling deeply into loneliness and depression. Two days after, he dies in company of his beloved brother Theo.
